GOVision : The Power Behind Power

Submitted by: Mahmood Choudhury

Describe your idea. How does it work and who does it help?

We all know and can recognise the familiar faces of  government from the PM, his Cabinet and MPs that appear on TV and the media. How about other people that run the services and aspects of government that we do not see ?

I would like to see a transparency whereby we can get to know the people that make up our government - from Whitehall, Parliament, Cabinet Office down to local councillors in our area.

This will help people understand better the role of the government, its services and the key people and background staff that make it all work.

There should be a friendly face to government not one that is hidden behind layers of protocol or corridors of power, red tape and political spin.

The people of this country need to know who does what, the services that are provided and what function they serve and how this affects you and me.

People in government can introduce themselves via video, photos, blogs etc to help citizens understand who they are and what they do. For example, there could be a section about Whitehall where people can say who they are and what their role is.

Then type in a postcode and you can find out people in local government and what they do, their role and what they have been doing so far for the community.

I can type in a postcode or select a service and find out who runs it and what it does.

What information or services do you need?

google maps, postcode data, local service data, stats
