Time to Commute

Submitted by: Mike Fairburn

Describe your idea. How does it work and who does it help?

The idea will help people to determine where to buy a house depending on the amount of commuting timethey want to give to their journey to work.  Using standard mapping technology (as used by the new TomTom SatNav devices, for example) people can put into a website their work location and how long they are prepared to commute.  The application would then draw a 'circle' denoting the areas in which to search for property.

What information or services do you need?

Ordanance Survey map data, Department of Transport traffic information, Housing and postcode date

Comments

The mysociety travel maps are brilliant! How about mashing tfl.gov.uk data into the mix so you can select number of stops and preferred modes of transport too.

And even better, find the best neighborhood for 2 different work postcodes?
